AJ aims to accomplish free community college for the Ventura County colleges of Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura College, preparing students with skills for careers in high demand, and providing students with the tools to reach their goals!

AJ has been a lifelong resident of Ventura County. He attended public schools for his K-12 education before attending Ventura College where he received two AA degrees. AJ was previously elected to serve on the Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees as a Student Trustee by his peers to represent the more than 30,000 students at Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura College. He was even elected among his peers statewide to serve as President of the California Community College Association of Student Trustees in which he advocated in Sacramento for community college students. AJ transferred to UC Santa Barbara where he attained a Bachelor’s degree in Global Studies with a minor in Feminist Studies. AJ also put his own education on hold at UCSB to work as an Organizer for the California Democratic Party to help re-elect Congresswoman Julia Brownley in 2014.

After completing his degree, AJ was offered a job to work for California State Assemblymember Das Williams as a Field Representative to assist the community in Ventura County. While working as a Field Representative, AJ covered the issues of local government, higher education, the environment, and more! Since early 2016, AJ has served on the Ventura County Community College District’s Bond Measure S Oversight Committee reviewing a $356 million budget for facilities. AJ works as a casual longshoreman at the Port of Hueneme.

AJ has served the Ventura County community by participating on different boards in the area. He currently serves as a board member to the CAUSE Action Fund Board of Directors, League of Conservation Voters – Central Coast chapter, Ventura County Democratic Party, and the California Democratic Party’s Executive Board. AJ was a founding board member of the Ventura Food Co-Op and served as President of the Greater Oxnard Organization of Democrats for two years.
