WHO IS

Arthur “AJ” Valenzuela Jr?

AJ is a lifelong resident of Ventura County.

AJ attended Ventura’s public schools for his K-12 education before attending Ventura College where he earned his two AA degrees. AJ was previously elected to serve on the Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees as a Student Trustee. His peers elected him to represent the more than 30,000 students at Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura College. He was even elected among by students statewide to serve as President of the California Community College Association of Student Trustees where he spent his time in our state’s capital advocating for community college students. AJ transferred to UC Santa Barbara where he attained a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies with a minor in Feminist Studies. AJ event put his own education on hold at UCSB to work as an Organizer for the California Democratic Party to help re-elect Congresswoman Julia Brownley.

After completing his degree, AJ worked for the California State Assembly under then-Assemblymember Das Williams as a Field Representative, assisting the Ventura County community. While working as a Field Representative, AJ covered issues of local government, higher education, the environment, and everything that affects those living in Ventura. Following his time in the Assembly, AJ served on the Ventura County Community College District’s Bond Measure S Oversight Committee reviewing a $356 million budget for facilities. He currently works as a casual longshoreman at the Port of Hueneme.

AJ serves the Ventura County community by serving on different boards in the area. He currently serves as board member to the CAUSE Action Fund Board of Directors, League of Conservation Voters – Central Coast chapter, Ventura County Democratic Party, and the California Democratic Party’s Executive Board. AJ is a founding board member of the Ventura Food Co-Op and served as President of the Greater Oxnard Organization of Democrats for two years.
